Background


In 1954 Dairy Technical Services Ltd was formed by a number of leading co-operative dairy companies to provide a cost effective central laboratory service to the dairy industry. Originally the laboratory was  situated in the Western Star building in King Street, Melbourne and after several moves is now located in a very accessible position at Kensington, just off the Melbourne end of the Tullamarine Freeway.

Today DTS is one of the largest independent food testing laboratories in Australia, employing over 60 staff who perform a wide range of chemical, physical and microbiological analysis. It provides testing services to the food manufacturing industry, covering meat, dairy, confectionary, beverage and allied industries and also offers monitoring of packaging materials, water and effluents.

Business growth has lead to the construction of a new state of the art Microbiological Testing Facility with separate PC1, PC2, PC3 facilitates and the latest in immunoassay and PCR testing equipment for high speed results with special emphasis on pathogens.

Throughout its 50 years of operation DTS has been focused on quality of its service and the protocols that support this service. This  is reflected in its record of accreditation which has been continuous since 1961, with the range of accredited tests steadily expanding to meet the needs of the Food Industry (click NATA icon to the list  of accredited test). This association has seen DTS provide  expertise and technical assessors to assist NATA to maintain this important Accreditation System. Additionally DTS carries out a wide range of testing based on customer supplied methods to meet their specific needs.
